This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have learnt so much in one week than I ever could have hoped for. The staff are so funny, unique and intelligent; such a lovely group to work with. The variety of complex cases amazed me and it was all so interesting. After this fantastic experience, I just cannot wait to learn more at university and further education to prepare for a hopefully successful career in law. I cannot thank the team at M23LAW enough! Lottie (soon to be undergraduate).

A big thank you to everyone at M23LAW. I couldn't have enjoyed or learnt any more in a week than I did. Everyone was so friendly from the minute I arrived. I learnt all about what a career in law involved and I am now more determined than ever to persue my dream. I especially enjoyed my visits to court and one brilliant day in London. Everyone treated me with total respect and tried to make me feel at home. I hope to see everyone at some point in the future. Chris (School student).

We actively encourage selected work experience students from schools, colleges and universities nationwide. Also from abroad. Recent students have come from Durham, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Oxford Universities. This year's intake also included Kent University and University College London. Sometimes, we are able to offer an internship for up to one year. It is an important part of our corporate purpose to give something back to the community and to be involved in the education of future prospective lawyers.

Mutually Beneficial

The experience is a mutually beneficial two-way process. It allows our staff team to gain from the influx of alternative ideas and approaches so often raised by the students. Since founding M23LAW ten years ago, the majority of our employees have come to us via work experience. The students themselves benefit from valuable on the job experience. These can range from routine tasks, such as filing and answering the phone, through to shadowing lawyers during visits to police stations and courts. Past students attest to this valuable, all round experience.

Applicants are shortlisted and individually interviewed before acceptance. The interviews have to be robust and searching due to the nature of our specialist work. All students (and their guardians if under 18) have to complete a confidentiality agreementReferences and records maybe checked. If you would like any further information, please email help@m23law.co.uk. Alternatively, give us a call on: 0844 2640 999 on weekday mornings.

*Please note all students must like dogs as there are two friendly hounds (collie cross!) on the premises *

A letter from a recent work experience student:

"Thank you to everyone at the workplace, I had a wicked time, learnt loads and enjoyed day trips out, especially to Chambers, Lewes Court and the police station. I have had fun and am happy to be coming back to work. Hope you enjoy the choccies and don't get too fed up of me! See you soon, thanks again.”

Memoirs of an intern:

"I can say without question that my time at M23LAW has been one of, if not the most valuable experience of my life. Studying at Oxford University was incredible, but there is no substitute for hard-nosed experience in the workplace and the world of law. For this, an internship at M23LAW is priceless. The sheer variation in the work I have done and the people I have met is exceptional. One day I'll find myself in the office dealing with any number of phone calls and chasers, while fighting to meet deadlines in preparing clients' cases. The next, in court in the morning clerking two preliminary hearings before dashing off to a prison conference in the afternoon. No day is the same and no day is without its pressures and challenges. But the best thing has been those at Hedley-Saunders and the barristers used by the firm. It is a small firm, but good for it. Teamwork, hard-work and the odd bit of rather unique humour is the order of the day. Work hard, and I always knew I was part of a team who were prepared to trust in me and give me genuine responsibility. You will get thrown in at the deep end a few times, but never without someone to help you out if needs be. To everyone, thank you again!" James Gubb - Director of the Civitas Health Unit .

And of the international intern:

"French trainee solicitors are encouraged to have an experience abroad. M23LAW kindly welcomed me. I was thus able to discover an altogether different legal system and was shown many aspects of the work of an English solicitor. For example, I was able to attend a trial pleaded by one of the barristers related to the firm. At the end of the experience, all my questions were answered. I was involved in the life of the firm very quickly. People in the firm trust you and from one day to the other you're given the chances to progress. The atmosphere in the office, despite the touchy cases treated, always remains nice. It is due to the fact that one of the values of the firm is that there is a life after work. I am now part of the M23LAW Community which gathers not only the members of the staff but also the former trainees. That is also why this experience was so special and rewarding to me.
