Racist and Discriminatory Police

Stephen Lawrence Macpherson Report

Are the police still institutionally racist?

Are the police still institutionally racist?

The 1999 Macpherson Report into the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence branded the Met ‘institutionally racist.’

PC Carol Howard is claiming direct discrimination against the Met on grounds of race and/or sex and/or marital status, also harassment and victimisation while pursuing her career as an authorised firearms officer in the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG). She was one of only two black women in the DPG’s 700 complement of officers.

Our defence lawyers have encountered various forms of discrimination by police officers when travelling to courts and police station custody suites. Perhaps there has not been as much progress in the attitudes of the police as there should have been since 1999.

In Your Defence Ltd are specialist Criminal Law solicitors, defending daily in courts and police custody suites across England & Wales. All offences, from Assault (Murder, Manslaughter, Wounding, GBH, ABH and Common Assault) to Dishonesty (Fraud, Theft, Deception, Handling, Receiving and Making Off Without Payment).
